Albania’s prime minister has criticized British Home Secretary Swella Braverman, calling his country’s allocation of immigrants a “shameful” moment in British politics, The Guardian writes on March 23.
Edi Rama, who is in the UK for talks with Rishi Sunak, said Braverman’s comments last year about “Albanian criminals” crossing the English Channel in small boats could be seen as a crime in themselves.
“Unfortunately, we have witnessed how we and our community are singled out in this country for political purposes. It was a very, very embarrassing moment for British politics.”– he said/
Braverman’s comments were “lower point”he said, adding that the political will remains to overcome the deterioration in the relationship.
“That which [сказали] Cabinet members, starting with the Minister of the Interior, [является] highlighting our community, which is not what you do in our civilization, and this is what does not represent Britain at allsaid the prime minister. — We do not recognize the connection between some criminals and Albanians as such, because giving an ethnic stamp to a crime is itself a crime.”
The Home Secretary was also accused of using inflammatory language when she said the south coast of England was being overrun by asylum seekers. At a Conservative Party conference, she said: “Many of them claim to have been sold into modern slavery…the truth is that many of them are not modern slaves and their claims that they were sold are false.”
