The German Railway and Transport Workers’ Union EVG and the Verdi Service Workers’ Union Association have announced a general strike for March 27, writes Focus online on March 23.
The strike was triggered by collective bargaining in aviation safety, rail transport and an ongoing dispute in the public sector between unions, the federal government and municipalities. In mid-March it became known that the unions were preparing a general strike.
For several weeks, Verdi has paralyzed air, bus and rail traffic in various rounds of strikes in various German federal states. In many cities, employees of clinics, kindergartens, garbage collection and treatment facilities are on strike.
On March 27, the unions plan to paralyze the circulation of trains, buses, ships, electric trains and planes for local and long-distance communications throughout the country. For the first time, the unions are also paralyzing traffic on the roads.
Federally owned Autobahn GmbH is also on strike. Therefore, motorists need to be prepared for the fact that the roads will be blocked. It is possible that Verdi on the same day in several cities will go on strike in garbage collection services, kindergartens and clinics. Public life will stop.
