The Australian regulator issued a temporary permit to Qantas Airways Ltd and Emirates on March 23, reports the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) press service.
The airlines will continue their passenger and cargo alliance while they evaluate their application for final approval.
Qantas and Emirates’ current five-year permit expires at the end of March. The parties are seeking another five-year extension of the alliance, the commission said in a statement.
Under the current authorization, Qantas and Emirates coordinate their operations through their networks that cover routes between Australia and the United Kingdom or Europe, New Zealand, Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.
“ACCC may review a temporary permit at any time and its decision on a temporary permit will not be made to indicate whether a final permit will be issued.”said regulatory commissioner Anna Brachi.
