A gunman who killed three people and injured three more was shot dead by Thai police after a 15-hour standoff, a senior official said. This was reported on March 23 by UCA News.
The shooter opened fire on passersby in the city of Phetchaburi, some 100 kilometers southwest of Bangkok, after which police surrounded the house in which he had locked himself.
The confrontation ended in the early hours of March 23, when armed police stormed the building and killed an unnamed militant. Local media only report that it is a 29-year-old former employee of the national park.
“We acted step by step, starting with negotiations, but he continued to resist and shot the others”said Police Lieutenant General Tanavut Wutiyarastamrong.
Police found a Glock pistol and two magazines at the scene, but believe the man had more weapons.
As a reminder, Thailand has a high level of weapons proliferation among the population, and in the last 12 months there have been an increasing number of violent incidents. In particular, in the northeastern province of Nong Bua Lam Phu, there was a massacre of 36 people, including 24 children.
