The Zimbabwean government has significantly increased the salaries of its employees in recent weeks, Anadolu Agency reports on March 23.
On Tuesday (March 21), the government increased the salaries of its employees by 100%. Earlier this month, the government increased the salaries of police and military personnel by 400%.
Before the promotion, the soldier earned 170,000 Zimbabwean dollars, equivalent to 184 dollars at the official exchange rate. The policemen earned 133 thousand Zimbabwean dollars, which is equivalent to 144 dollars.
Teachers who used to earn about 39,000 Zimbabwean dollars ($84) will now earn twice as much.
Treasury Secretary George Guwamatanga also said that COVID-19 benefits have been increased from $200 to $250 for all government employees.
Note that according to official data, consumer price inflation in Zimbabwe fell to 92.3% yoy in February 2023.
