The results of the XXII All-Russian competition “Vladimir-Suzdal Rus” were summed up in Kovrov on March 23, the press service of the Russian Fencing Federation reported.
The épée fencing tournament was dedicated to the memory of Kovrov’s fencer Vladimir Moshtalev. About 150 athletes under the age of 15 from different regions of Russia, as well as two Belarusian épée fencers, took part in the fight for medals.
The day ended with the final duel between Ilya Lobykin from Voskresensk near Moscow and Pavel Gavrilov from Saint Petersburg. Lobykin was stronger this time, winning 12:8 and becoming the champion of the competition. Third place was shared by Kirill Marochkin from Kaluga and Daniil Perepelkin (Dzerzhinsk).
Let’s remember that fencing with the sword of the three types of sports weapons (rapier, sword, saber) is the closest thing to a duel. Here you can give injections to any part of the body, as well as to a protective mask, and a point is awarded to the athlete who injected himself earlier. In case of mutual injections, both athletes receive points.
