Dilma Rousseff becomes President of BRICS Bank

Former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, fired by Congress in August 2016 in the middle of her second term, was confirmed this Friday as the new president of the Development Bank, the BRICS bank, Brazil’s political and economic bloc. , India, China and South Africa. The official appointment of Dilma to the position was announced in a statement released by the bank itself, which is headquartered in Shanghai, China.

Dilma, 75, nominated to the position at the beginning of the year by President Lula da Silva, will remain as president of the important international financial institution until July 2025. Bloc countries and institution’s technical committee.

In a communiqué issued by the bank this Friday, Dilma Rousseff is named as a man who, while serving as President of Brazil, has made important strides in reducing hunger and extreme poverty and has advocated for economic stability in the country. The former president is due to travel to China on Sunday as part of an entourage that will accompany Lula da Silva on a state visit to the country.

Banco dos Brics is an important development engine for the countries of the bloc, operating mainly in infrastructure financing and sustainable development projects. In office, the former president of Brazil will earn, in addition to a number of other benefits, approximately 51,000 euros per month.
