Colombian state energy company Ecopetrol (ECO.CN) has appointed Alberto Consuegra as its interim CEO, replacing Felipe Bayón, who resigned at the end of the month after more than five years in the job, Exopetrol management told Reuters on March 25th.
Ecopetrol announced in January that Bayón was stepping down, and his departure comes as a shock to Colombia’s largest company and the country’s largest oil producer.
Consuegra, an Ecopetrol veteran who is currently the company’s director of operations, will replace Bayón on April 1 and will remain in the position until a successor is named, Ecopetrol said in a statement.
“The Board of Directors, with the support of the Compensation, Nominations and Culture Committee and the recommendations of the international recruitment firm, continues to advance in the process of electing a new President”the company said in a statement.
