Modernization of the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft was listed among the US Navy’s top four priorities for fiscal year 2024, Defense News reports March 25.
R&D worth $49 million will be carried out to upgrade the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye control aircraft and AWACS. These funds will be used to update “outdated cabin, computers, screens and fixing many cyber problems”, which will allow carrier-based wing aircraft to enhance guidance capabilities and ensure long-range strike missions.
Recall that the Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Mike Gilday, said that he did not plan to increase the size of the US Navy beyond what “will be able to provide seafarers, maintenance, ammunition and other measures to ensure combat readiness.”
