Cases of discrimination and violence against migrants were proposed by the UN Human Rights Committee in Panama, reports La Estrella De Panamá on March 24.
The publication reported that the UN Human Rights Committee issued comments on the Panama report. It is highlighted that Panama has made progress in the protection of the rights of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. However, he expressed his concern because the migrants were allegedly victims of criminal gangs in El Capa del Darién.
Migrants are reportedly killed, kidnapped, trafficked, sexually assaulted, assaulted, robbed, intimidated, and threatened by criminal gangs operating in the Colombian border province.
The Committee called on the Panamanian authorities to take the necessary measures to protect the lives and safety of migrants and redouble efforts to investigate and punish those who abused the rights of migrants.
The Committee has considered complaints about incidents of a discriminatory nature and invites the Panamanian authorities to systematically investigate cases of discrimination and violence committed by individuals or public officials.
