At least 19 migrants died this Sunday and five more were rescued, all from sub-Saharan Africa, after the unreliable boat they were traveling on sank off the Tunisian coast of Mahdia (south), the non-governmental organization (NGO ).
This is the third fatal shipwreck in 72 hours, with at least 24 people killed and 62 people missing, with 40 others surviving, according to Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES) spokesman Romdan Ben Amor.
Some 30 organizations on Friday accused the interior ministry of cracking down on humanitarian aid campaigns for migrants after President Qais Saeed accused them of participating in a plot to change the country’s demographics and “Arab-Muslim” identity.
