The founder and leader of the RNF Aprilia team, which features Portugal’s Miguel Oliveira, said this Sunday that he “will push for tougher penalties for riders who endanger others.”
Quoting the team’s statement, Malaysian rider Razlan Razali argues that “MotoGP riders should be an example for the youth in Moto2 and Moto3 and, racing irresponsibly as they are now, should be severely punished so riders know they shouldn’t.”
The Malaysian has spoken out about the incident that caused Miguel Oliveira to pull out of the Portuguese MotoGP Grand Prix, the first of 21 races in the 2023 World Speed Championship.
The Portuguese rider was hit by Spaniard Marc Marquez (Honda) early in the third lap when he was in second place.
Oliveira suffered a bruise on his right leg and Marquez broke his right arm.
The stewards realized that this was negligence on the part of the former world champion and punished him with a double long lap in the next race, the Argentine Grand Prix.
Razlan understands that the punishments should be more severe.
“Someone forgot that this was not a sprint race, it had 25 laps. The incident occurred on the third,” he stressed.
The race was won by Italy’s Francesco Bagna (Ducati).
