The military police in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais announced on Monday that they had rescued a woman buried alive in a cemetery.
Authorities have saved “the life of a woman who was buried still alive in a vertical grave at the municipal cemetery in the city of Visconde do Rio Branco,” the Brazilian military police said in a statement.
The military was called by the gravediggers of the cemetery, who saw near the site “a catacomb covered with brick and fresh cement and with traces of blood.” At the cemetery, the Military Police officers heard cries of “help”, broke down a brick wall and carried out a 36-year-old woman who had head injuries and several cuts on her body.
According to the Military Police, which cites the victim, she was at home with her husband when “two hooded men broke into the house and attacked her.” Her husband was also attacked, but he managed to escape.
“She doesn’t remember anything since then until she woke up in the grave,” authorities say, adding that in the past the woman had already “held weapons and drugs for two people, and that this material was lost.”
According to the military police, the woman will be involved in “use, drug trafficking and theft.”
Two suspects aged 20 and 22 have already been identified but are at large.
