Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov hinted at a dinner in late December that the war in Ukraine would go on for a “long, long time.”
The information is distributed by the British newspaper The keeper with reference to sources close to the President of Russia.
One of the dinner guests said that he was “embarrassed” by Peskov’s speech. “It was clear that he was warning that the war would continue and that we must prepare for a long journey,” he said.
Recently, the President of Russia assured that “war is not a geopolitical task” but the task of “the survival of the Russian state.”
In his address to the nation, Putin also mentioned that the war was being waged against the “Kyiv regime” and that he had the support of the West. “The task of the West is to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia in order to end us once and for all. We will respond accordingly, because we are talking about the existence of our country,” he added.
Ukraine was invaded on February 24 last year by Russia. According to the UN, the conflict sparked the worst refugee crisis in Europe since World War II.
