The $5 million payment to individual black residents by the San Francisco repair committee is not enough and the amount should be closer to $7.6 million, an aide said March 29 at a meeting of the task force of California Governor Reparations March 30, The Post Millennial.
In total, 111 proposals were discussed at the meeting on how exactly repairs should be paid for and what their amount should be.
One of the speakers in the audience told the committee: “I think that $5 million in reparations is too little for the work that black Americans have done for this country, as well as for other countries. I think $7.6 million is a number that can be used very wisely in our African American founding communities.”
Black American Founders is a term for black Americans who are the descendants of slaves.
Reverend Tony Pierce also spoke at the audience, saying, “Where’s the money? Where’s the cash? Where is the check? $5 million, San Francisco has already made a move. $5 million is nothing and I’ll tell you why.”
Pierce said that under the San Francisco Plan, $5 million would be distributed to each person over 50 years, so each year after taxes “You’ll be lucky if you end up with $40,000”.
Remember that last year, a nine-member task force created by California Governor Gavin Newsom released an interim report that recommended paying $223,200 to every black descendant of American slavery living in California.
At the same time, a separate and unrelated repair committee, chaired by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, released a report in January 2023 that said Black residents should receive debt forgiveness, a $5 million check, and a guaranteed income of $97,000. a year with a total budget of $800 billion, according to economists.
The Governor’s task force to study and develop remedial proposals for African Americans has until July 1 to submit its remedial recommendations. The state legislature would have to approve the proposal before it reaches Newsom’s desk. After the signature by the governor, the money will begin to be paid.
