All Colombian Air Force planes, including the presidential one, will be sent to help passengers affected by the closure of Viva Air and Ultra Air, Colombian President Gustavo Petro said on March 31, reports TeleSUR.
The head of state indicated that he was suspending all his trips so that the presidential plane could be used in the midst of the crisis.
“Given the emergency situation caused by the suspension of Viva Air and Ultra flights, I have ordered that all Air Force aircraft, including the presidential one, be ready to transport the wounded from now on”— wrote Petro on the official Twitter page.
Earlier, the airline Ultra Air confirmed the cessation of its activities as of midnight on March 30. Viva Air has done the same by canceling all its flights as of February 27.
Local media reported that the airlines Avianca, Wingo and Latam have announced plans to rescue the passengers that Ultra Air has left stranded.
Avianca has announced that it will transport Ultra passengers for free until April 1. In addition, the company confirmed that they will serve Ultra users at various airports in the country.
