Britain’s joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership puts it at the center of a booming region, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said, commenting on the deal on March 31, Sky News reports.
The Trans-Pacific Partnership includes Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the agreement “puts the UK at the center of a dynamic and growing group of Pacific economies.”
“At heart, we are an open and free nation, and this deal demonstrates the real economic benefits of our post-Brexit freedoms., – he said. — Under the CPTPP, the UK is now well positioned in the global economy to take advantage of opportunities for new jobs, growth and innovation.”
Final administrative and legal steps will now be taken before the UK officially signs on in 2023. The date of signing the deal is unknown.
UK Chancellor Jeremy Hunt said the announcement was “great news”.
