Pope Francis’ condition “remarkably improved” 24 hours after his hospitalization, doctors said, attributing the improvement to treatment with intravenous antibiotics. This was reported on March 31 by UCA News.
Francis was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli hospital with difficulty breathing and tests showed he had bronchitis, according to a medical bulletin published by the Vatican press office on March 30. “Based on the expected progress, the Holy Father can be discharged in the next few days,” the pontiff’s treating physicians said.
Hours earlier, the Vatican said the pope was “well rested” on his first night in hospital and “steadily recovered” from what was called a respiratory infection.
He spent the morning reading newspapers, eating breakfast and “resuming work,” the Vatican said. Before dinner, she went to the chapel near her hospital room to pray and receive communion.
The evening press release stated that “Pope Francis spent the day in [клинике] Gemelli, dedicating himself to rest, prayer and some work obligations.
Remember, earlier in the Vatican he said that in recent days, Francis complained of “some difficulties in breathing.” after which he was hospitalized for medical tests, the results of which revealed a “respiratory infection” unrelated to COVID-19.
The 86-year-old pope is missing part of his lung, which was removed in 1957 when he was 20 and preparing to become a priest in his native Argentina. He insisted that the operation had no significant effect on his health.
Before heading to the hospital, Pope Francis held a weekly general audience in St. Peter’s Square and found no obvious signs of respiratory problems.
Pope Francis’ scheduled meetings for March 30 and 31 have been canceled “to make room in his schedule to continue testing,” a Vatican official said.
“Pope Francis is moved by the many messages he has received and appreciates the closeness and prayer”the Vatican said in a second statement.
The Gemelli Hospital, part of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, has several rooms on the tenth floor reserved for potatoes.
In July 2021, Francis spent 10 days there after undergoing a three-hour operation that included a left-sided hemicolectomy, the removal of the descending part of the colon, an operation recommended for the treatment of diverticulitis.
In late January, the pontiff told The Associated Press that his diverticulitis had returned, but insisted that he was in good health for his age.
In a July 2022 interview with Reuters, Francis dismissed rumors that he got cancer during colon surgery as “legal gossip.”
