The arrest of the rector of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel, was compared to the execution of Christ by the head of the State Duma Control Committee Oleg Morozov on his telegram channel.
And Morozov, in turn, compared the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky with Pontius Pilate and Judas in one.
“He is Christianity incarnate! His current defeat in the struggle for truth is like the execution of Christ, it is a victory over the devilish principle, it is the triumph of faith and good. There will be no other interpretation of this event in the truly orthodox world… Zelensky is Herod, Judas, Caiaphas and Pilate all rolled into one.”Morozov wrote.
He called the arrest of Metropolitan Pavel a scandalous event.
“His position in the church and his membership in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate are secondary in this case. His religious mission is paramount. He is a martyr for the faith!” Morozov added.
Recall that the Ukrainian authorities accused the vicar of the kyiv-Pechersk Lavra of Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed) of “cooperation with Russia and interfaith incitement”. A search was carried out at his home.
Then the Ukrainian edition of Strana reported that the Kiev court chose the rector of the kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel, a preventive measure in the form of 24-hour house arrest with an electronic bracelet.
The conflict around the kyiv-Pechersk Lavra intensified after the notification of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine about the unilateral termination of the agreement with the UOC on the lease of the monastery. The monks were asked to leave the Lavra on March 29. Monks who were to move to the schismatic OCU were allowed to stay in the Lavra.
The vicar of the kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed), said that there could be no compromises in the Lavra, the brothers would stand to the end. He did not recognize the unilateral termination of the Lavra lease, demanding a court decision. A lawsuit was filed with the kyiv Economic Court on the inadmissibility of terminating the lease.
For Orthodox Christians, the kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is one of the earthly heritages of the Mother of God. Earlier, Patriarch Cyril of Moscow and all Rus’ addressed the primates of local Orthodox churches, Pope Francis, UN Secretary General António Guterres, leaders and representatives of international organizations with messages calling them “make every effort possible”to avoid the expulsion of the monks and the forced closure of the monastery.
