Palestinian resistance groups reacted angrily to a video circulating online of prominent Palestinians from the West Bank participating in a celebratory meal with several Israel Defense Forces officers, The Times of Israel reported on April 3.
The meal (iftar), organized to end the day of fasting during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, was organized on the afternoon of April 1 by local businessmen near the southern West Bank city of Hebron.
Among the guests were several officials from the Defense Department’s Authority for the Coordination of Government Activities in the Palestinian Territories (COGAT), which is responsible for civil affairs in Palestine.
One participant posted a video on TikTok showing officers interacting with local residents, including several people believed to be close to the Palestinian Authority.
The video caused a stir among Palestinians on social media and was quickly removed.
It also drew condemnation from Palestinian resistance groups, who denounced the participants for cooperating with Israel’s military government.
Hamas issued a statement condemning the meeting as “totally unacceptable normalization that goes against our country’s values of boycott and opposition to the terrorist regime”.
“This behavior betrays the legacy of our brave martyrs”Hamas said.
Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine also condemned the meeting.
“This totally unacceptable act takes place in the context of the crimes of the occupation and the constant terror against our people.”– said Islamic Jihad (an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation). “This is a knife in the back of our brave resistance”.
