The strike forced the suppression of 57 trains before 08:00

The CP strike resulted this Monday in the suppression of 57 of the 257 trains running before 08:00, most of which run within the city of Lisbon and regional services, reports CP – Comboios de Portugal.

According to the disclosure, out of 113 trains scheduled to Urbanos de Lisboa, 25 (22.1%) were cancelled, out of 67 scheduled in the regional service, 23 (34.3%) were canceled in Urbanos do Porto, 47 out of 52 scheduled trains. and in Urbanos de Coimbra, half (4) of the eight planned were completed.

The strike did not affect long-distance services, as all 12 scheduled connections were made between 00:00 and 08:00 Monday.

Several unions started on Tuesday (March 28) new strikes in the railway sector, which cover Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) and CP until the end of the month, including a 24-hour day, next Thursday.

According to the communiqué of the platform of trade unions with representation in the CP and IP, from March 28 to Tuesday there will be a strike in the IP from 00:00 to 02:00, and until April 30, trade unions will strike in the IP and CP from the eighth hour of service.

In addition, until the end of the month, “at the CP, workers whose normal duration is more than three hours in the period from 00:00 to 05:00 will strike from the seventh hour of work”, and between April 10 and 30 at the IP “workers, the normal duration whose work is more than three hours in the period from 00:00 to 05:00, will go on strike from the seventh hour of work.

On April 6, the strike will last 24 hours.

The following unions are members of this platform: ASCEF – Allied Association of Intermediate Railway Operators; SINFB – National Union of Railway Workers of the Brace Tribe and Related Workers; SINFA – Independent Trade Union of Railway Transport, Infrastructure and Related Industries Workers; FENTECOP – National Union of Transport, Communications and Public Works; SIOFA – Independent Union of Railway Workers, etc.; ASSIFECO – Independent Trade Union Association of Commercial Railway Workers and STF – Railway Technical Services.

According to the unions, “unless minimum services are introduced on April 6, there will be no trains to Portugal.”

“Responsibility for the consequences, whether financial or social, that arise from these forms of struggle will be the full responsibility of the government, which, without negotiating with trade unions, ignores IP and CP workers and disrespects Portuguese citizens who use public transport. daily. railroad,” they complain.

The National Union of Drivers of the Portuguese Railways (SMAQ) also announced a new strike at CP in April due to the “autistic and inattentive attitude” it accuses the company of.

Workers’ claims include “effective wage increases” and “traction career evaluation”, as well as improved working conditions in driver’s cabs and social facilities, as well as safety conditions on lines and in parks to protect motor material.

There is still demand for “humanization of duty lists, established meal times and reduction of rest time outside headquarters”, “an effective protocol for psychological support of drivers in case of people getting stuck on the way and accidents” and “recognition and assessment of professional requirements and training of drivers by a new legislative framework” .
