Government legalizes PSP response to housing rights protests

The government is on the side of the PSP with regard to the response given to a group of people who clashed with the police at the end of the housing demonstration in Lisbon on Saturday. Chega came this Monday to blame the PKP and the Left Bloc for what had happened. A few hours earlier, Communist leader Paulo Raimundo distanced himself from what was happening, stressing that these actions divert attention from the real goals of the protest.

“Any crime committed against the authorities is a crime against all of us and against the rule of law, which is based on norms and has democratic foundations that flow from legislation approved by our representatives in parliament and government,” he said. this second Minister of the Interior, José Luis Carneiro.

SDP leader Luis Montenegro also showed solidarity with the authorities, not forgetting that, along with the housing protesters, the police have reasons to protest.

Meanwhile, Chega, led by Andre Ventura, announced the submission of a draft vote “condemning the acts of violence and unrest caused by the demonstrators” at Saturday’s protest, which mentions the presence of PKP leaders Paulo Raimundo and Bloco de Esquerda, which is responsible for what happened.

A few hours earlier, PKP general secretary Paulo Raimundo had already distanced himself from the clashes that followed the demonstration. “We did not follow the final expression of this protest, under the conditions that you outlined here, but what signs these unfortunate incidents were not, what signs were those thousands of people who took to the streets for just reasons that they had and continue to eat,” — said.

ABOUT cm requested a response from BE on the matter, which chose not to comment.

Police justify actions because of attacks on officers
The PSP leadership justifies the accusation by the police against the demonstrators for the right to housing, which took place late on Saturday, at Martim Moniz, in Lisbon, by the aggression that the agents were subjected to in an attempt to identify the two women responsible for the various damages. . The statement explains that the beginning of the violence occurred when the PSP employees were surrounded and subjected to aggression and pelting with stones and glass bottles.
