Researchers at the US National Science Foundation have detected radio signals from a planet 12 light-years from Earth, suggesting it likely has a magnetic field necessary for life.
In accordance with daily mailThe researchers say the radio signal came from a rocky planet called YZ Ceti b, which orbits the small red dwarf YZ Ceti.
It is likely that the radio signal originated from the interaction between the planet’s magnetic field and the star around which it orbits, similar to what happens on planet Earth with the northern lights.
“Whether a planet retains an atmosphere or not may depend on whether the planet has a strong magnetic field,” said Sebastian Pineda, an astrophysicist at the University of Colorado.
Therefore, when scientists discovered the radio signal, there was hope that life could exist on this planet.
