BTG Pactual announced on Tuesday the launch of a stablecoin that will have parity with the dollar and which, according to the Brazilian financial institution, will be the first bank-issued digital currency in the world.
The coin, called BTG Dol, will be available on the BTG Pactual Mynt digital asset platform, which already offers trading in Bitcoin and 21 other cryptocurrencies, including some stablecoins.
The bank said in a statement that it would be responsible for providing “the entire security structure of the asset”, including at the level of money laundering.
The new crypto asset will allow investors to “easily” convert some of their assets into dollars, according to the bank’s director of digital assets, Andre Portillo, quoted in the note.
BTG Pactual is the largest investment bank in Latin America with assets of 450.6 billion reais (about 80.9 billion euros) at the end of 2022.
