Production of cars of the Chinese brand BAIC began at the facilities of the Kaliningrad Avtotor plant, Kaliningrad Region Governor Anton Alikhanov said on April 5 on his Telegram channel.

Earlier, on January 30, 2023, the head of the Kaliningrad region reported that Avtotor had started industrial production of cars of the Chinese brand Kaiyi. The first model of the brand, which was introduced to the Russian market, was the E5 sedan.
Recall that the Avtotor plant was established in Kaliningrad in 1994. At the company’s sites, cars of the BMW, Ford Hyundai and KIA brands were assembled. In the spring of 2022, the production of cars of some brands was stopped due to the fact that some foreign car manufacturers left Russia, and the plant began to experience difficulties with the supply of components.
Earlier, the BMW concern, which collaborated with Avtotor, announced the suspension of car production in Kaliningrad. The Avtotor management assured that they would keep the team. Kaliningrad Region Governor Anton Alikhanov reported that the company plans to launch a new car production project at the end of 2022 and produce 50-70 thousand cars in 2023.
