Melania Trump was conspicuously absent from Donald Trump’s impeachment hearing, where the former US president pleaded not guilty to 34 counts.
On Monday, Trump left his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida to fly to New York, where he will stand trial on 34 counts of forging business documents.
The former first lady was not seen in court. The newspaper “New York TimesMaggie Haberman said Trump traveled from Florida to New York in his private jet with his son Eric Trump and other political aides. They included campaign spokesman Steven Cheung, longtime public relations aide Jason Miller, former White House adviser Dan Scavino, and Boris Epstein, who was part of the legal team seeking to reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Trump has yet to officially comment on her absence. Source cited in Mirror said the couple rarely live together at their Mar-a-Lago estate and only occasionally meet for dinner at his Palm Beach mansion.
“Their paths rarely cross,” a source told the news site.
“Melania is no different from any woman. The fact that her husband is accused of cheating on her not once, but twice, is very disturbing.
“It’s no wonder people think Trump is going to not only go to criminal court but potentially get a divorce,” the source said.
Among the accusations Trump is facing are some related to paying $130,000 to silence porn star Stormy Daniels to keep her from revealing a sexual encounter she had a year after he married Mrs. Trump.
Mr. Trump has consistently denied that he had an affair with Ms. Daniels, but Ms. Daniels gave details of the meeting and said the non-disclosure agreement was invalid.
It was also reported that Ms. Trump was absent from the former president’s speech in Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday evening.
During the speech, Trump praised his children, naming them individually but not naming his wife.
In his speech, he angrily attacked the judge and prosecutor in the case, claiming he was the victim of a political witch hunt.
