The Netherlands will procure American and Israeli-made weapons to meet military firepower requirements against long-range threats, The Defense Post reports on April 5.
According to the Dutch Defense Ministry, the purchases cover a range of rocket artillery and long-range weapons to improve the performance of the country’s warships.
It is noted that the Dutch Army will receive the Israeli Precision and Versatile Launch System (PULS) for increased range, payload and rapid target acquisition. While the country’s frigates and submarines will be equipped with US-developed Tomahawk subsonic cruise missiles.
According to the Dutch Secretary of State for Defense, Christoph van der Maat, these weapons should improve the air defense capabilities of the Dutch armed forces.
“The situation in Ukraine has once again shown that short, medium and long-range fire support is extremely important. This is applicable on land, from the air and from the sea.”Van der Maat said.
The Secretary of State added that with the new systems, the Netherlands will satisfy “the desire to have its own rocket artillery and long-range weapons, as prescribed in the 2022 Defense Policy Paper”.
