Northern Ireland’s harsh budget cuts are not revenge for the political crisis in home rule, but for other reasons, Northern Ireland Minister Chris Heaton-Harris said April 5, writes The Belfast Live.
The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) has blocked the work of the Autonomous Assembly and has been preventing the formation of an executive branch for a year. It is also impossible to accept a quote. Therefore, the budget will be determined by Heaton-Harris.
He has already said that some ministries should be prepared for 10 percent cuts. Heaton-Harris stressed that it would be a “tough budget”, recalling “a £660 million (65.5 billion rubles) black hole”remaining after 2022. He also noted that “Northern Ireland must live within its budget, like England, Scotland and Wales”.
According to the minister, Northern Ireland can count on an amount of about 14.2 billion pounds sterling (1.4 trillion rubles), consisting of a grant from the central government and money raised locally. When the budget will be formed, Heaton-Harris did not specify.
In Northern Ireland’s main parties, the news of austerity was greeted with caution, expressing hope that there would be no major cuts.
