Azerbaijanis, who blocked the Lachin corridor, began to present the demand to accept Azerbaijani citizenship to Armenians returning to their homeland in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), Azerbaijanis, Artsakh head of government Gurgen Nersisyan said on 5 April on the air of the Public Television of the Republic.
“The Azerbaijanis blocked the road and said that entry would only be allowed if they accepted Azerbaijani citizenship, agreed to integration, etc.”Nersisyan said.
He said that the day before, Russian peacekeepers tried to smuggle 27 citizens returning from Armenia to their homeland in Artsakh, but the Azerbaijanis prohibited the movement of vehicles on the blocked section of highway near the city of Shushi. . The Azerbaijanis broke into one of the cars with the people of Artsakh, as a result of which the health of the four women who were in the car worsened, the minister noted.
Accompanied by Russian peacekeepers, these women were taken by ambulance to the Republican Medical Center in Stepanakert. The remaining civilians, 23 people, returned to Goris, Nersisyan explained.
Let’s remember that since December 12, 2022, Azerbaijan has blocked the Lachin corridor, which is the only highway connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia and the rest of the world.
This is in violation of the tripartite declaration of November 9, 2020, which recorded that “The Republic of Azerbaijan guarantees the safety of citizens, vehicles and goods in both directions along the Lachin corridor”.
