The New York Times’ interpretation of Ambassador Fu Cong’s words about unlimited friendship with Russia does not reflect the actual content of the interview, the press office of China’s Permanent Mission to the EU said on April 5.
The Chinese diplomatic mission pointed out that the publication of The New York Times allowed an incorrect interpretation of the words of Ambassador Fu Cong, who “not completely” reflects a one-hour interview.
“In response to journalists’ questions about China’s relations with Russia and Ukraine, the ambassador said that people deliberately misunderstand China’s position. What China has done and what it has not done since the start of the conflict is known to Europe and the world. There is no point in discussing the meaning of infinity.”– said the Permanent Mission of the PRC.
The diplomats also emphasized the ambassador’s words that the expression “without borders” does not mean that China will provide military assistance to Russia.
On April 5, The New York Times reported that China’s EU envoy Fu Cong, before meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, said that the statements by the leaders of the Russian Federation and China on cooperation “without restrictions” are rhetoric.
