Pope Francis praised the virtues of sex in the documentary “The Pope’s Responses,” released this Wednesday on Disney+, calling it “one of the beautiful things God has given man.” The documentary joined the pontiff with ten young people, where he was asked about LGBT rights, abortion, pornography, sex, faith and sexual abuse in the Catholic Church.
“Sexual expression is wealth. So anything that detracts from true sexual expression diminishes and depletes that wealth,” he said, referring to masturbation, according to Reuters.
According to the same source, Pope Francis was also asked if he knew what a non-binary person was, to which the pontiff replied in the affirmative.
Regarding LGBT people, he said that the Catholic Church should welcome them. “All people are children of God, all people. God does not reject anyone, God is the Father. And I have no right to expel anyone from the church,” he said.
Regarding abortion, Pope Francis said priests should be “merciful” to women who terminate their pregnancies, but added that the practice remains unacceptable. “It is good to call a spade a spade. It is one thing to accompany a person who has had (an abortion), another thing is to justify the act, ”he said.
