Businessman Mikhail Kalonkin was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison and a fine of 700,000 rubles for fraud in cleaning up landfills by the Volgograd central court, the court’s press service reported on April 6.
Kalonkin was recognized as the actual head of the contractor Greenlight. He was supposed to remove 18 landfills in the Sredneakhtubinsky district for 269 million rubles.
According to the terms of the contract, the garbage was to be taken to the dump near the Zayar farm. However, according to the investigation, part of it was simply buried in the same place.
The defendant arranged for the director of “Greenlight” to provide briefing documents that contained false information about the work performed. These minutes were then signed by representatives of the host country. The court determined that the total cost of the work paid for but not performed by Greenlight exceeded 121 million rubles.
Kalonkin pleaded not guilty. The prosecution asked for 8 years in prison for the defendant and a fine of 800 thousand rubles. The court sentenced him to 7.5 years and a fine of 700 thousand rubles. The verdict can be appealed.
