The Research and Inspection Union SEF (SCIF/SEF) this Thursday suspended the first day of the strike planned until April 10, pending decisions by the Council of Ministers to restructure the service.
SCIF/SEF President Acasio Pereira told Lusa that the strike was suspended this Thursday, but now everything depends on what is approved in the next few hours at a meeting of the Council of Ministers, on the agenda of which is the creation of the Portuguese Agency for Migration and Asylum ( APMA), which will replace the Aliens and Borders Service (SEF).
According to the union leader, who gave advance notice of the strike from April 6 to April 10, which coincides with the Easter period, one of the problems is related to the “transfer diploma” of SEF workers to APMA and other state bodies.
A strike by SEF inspectors threatened to cause major riots at airports over the Easter period.
The protest of the SEF inspectors refers to the integration of employees of the Aliens and Border Guard Service into the judicial police, the Institute of Registration and Notaries (IRN) and the future APMA as part of the restructuring process of this body, whose trade unions’ negotiations with the government have not yet been completed on the draft decree-law which governs the transfer of workers.
Meanwhile, the Union of Employees of the Foreigners and Border Guard Service (SINSEF), which unites employees with non-police functions, continues the two-day strike that began on Wednesday, also related to the future integration of these employees into other state bodies. .
