The first stage of the painting of the new church of the Holy Passionate Tsarevich Alexy in the city of Gorodokovovsk of the Republic of Kalmykia is scheduled to be completed by the holiday of Holy Easter. This was reported on April 6 by the online republican publication “News from the Steppe”.
The painting work of the new church is carried out under the patronage of Archbishop Justinian of Elista and Kalmykia, who came to Gorodovikovsk. The archbishop assessed the intermediate results of the work and met with the rector of the temple, the hieromonk Kirill (Gorbachev), who spoke about what had been done and the immediate plans.
The archbishop thanked the icon painters for their efforts and expressed his gratitude to the benefactors who financed the painting of the temple.
Recall that the construction of an Orthodox church in Gorodovikovsk began in 2007 on the site of a church destroyed in the 20s of the XX century. The pre-revolutionary temple was built on October 26, 1914 in honor of the heavenly patron Tsarevich Alexy, in honor of Alexy, the man of God.
The sisters of the Marfo-Mariinsky Convent of Mercy in Moscow participated in the construction of the modern temple. On July 17, 2015, Archbishop Justinian of Elista and Kalmykia celebrated the first Divine Liturgy in the church under construction.
