
Service sales in China increased in the first two months of 2023, Xinhua reported on April 6.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, total sales of services between January and February amounted to about 970 billion yuan (141 billion US dollars), up 1.7% from the previous year.
Service imports rose 14.7% year-on-year to 557 billion yuan ($81 billion) during the period, while service exports totaled more than 412 billion yuan ($60 billion), 11.8% less than a year ago, resulting in a deficit of 144 billion yuan ($21 billion).
The data showed trade in knowledge-intensive services reached nearly 407 billion yuan ($59 billion) in January-February, up 6.4% year-on-year.
The reporting period saw a remarkable recovery in tourism services, with trade in the sector rising 39.8% year-over-year to more than 209 billion yuan ($30 billion), according to the ministry.
