34 rockets were fired this Thursday from Lebanon at Israel in a moment of tension following a violent operation by the Jewish State Police at a mosque. This is the largest attack on the country in the last 15 years.
according to the news Al Jazeera, 25 missiles were intercepted and at least five hit Israeli territory. An Israeli military spokesman blamed the attacks on the Islamist group Hamas.
According to preliminary data, three people were injured in a fire as a result of the fall of one of the explosive devices. Among the victims, the news agency reports, are 19-year-old and 60-year-old women. Emergency services also had to help other people who were reportedly in a state of shock.
At the time of the attack, warning sirens went off in several cities, as well as in the Galilee region in northern Israel.
The Lebanese press later reported that Israel responded by opening artillery fire across the border between the two countries.
So far, no group has reported attacks.
For a year now, there has been no missile launch from Lebanon against Israel. The two countries are still at war after several conflicts. The border between the two countries is controlled by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, whose purpose is to guarantee a ceasefire.
