Former Russian footballer and coach Oleksandr Kerzhakov, who moved to Dubai late last year, spoke out this Friday against Russian military intervention in Ukraine, saying he doesn’t understand it.
“I don’t understand how this is possible. That what is happening can happen in a modern and developed society,” said 40-year-old Alexander Kerzhakov, Russia’s top scorer, who scored 233 goals and played 90 matches in the first team.
Kerzhakov, who moved to Dubai at the end of last year, admitted in an interview that every day he understands better the “scale” of the problem that broke out on February 24, 2022 with the start of the Russian military campaign in Ukraine and who is afraid.
“In every interview, when I was asked what my biggest wish was, the only thing I asked for was that there would be no war. In the world in general, ”said the former player of Zenit, Sevilla (Spain), Dynamo Moscow and FC Zurich. (Switzerland).
This situation, which Kerzhakov, according to him, can neither explain nor find answers to it, led him to leave Russia, although he insists that this is not about flight or final emigration, but about a temporary departure and abandonment for a while in his native country.
Kerzhakov believes that the supporters of military intervention will not change their minds, since “too much time has passed”, although he believes that it is more dangerous that there are Russians who have no opinion about this and are simply trying to survive.
