Since the beginning of the Russian army’s special operation in Ukraine, the Russian air defense system has shot down more than 100 Turkish-made Bayraktar drones, said Lieutenant General Andrey Demin, commander of the air defense forces, deputy commander-in-chief of the Aerospace Forces told reporters on April 9, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
“I note that there are practically no fundamental differences in the fight against strategic-level drones such as the American Global Hawk (RQ-4) and Reaper (MQ-9) or the tactical-operational Turkish Bayraktars-TB in comparison with the fight against modern manned aircraft. . This is eloquently evidenced by the destruction of more than 100 of the Bayraktars delivered to Ukraine during the entire period of the North-Eastern Military District.” Demin said.
In 2018-2020 Ukraine purchased TB2 Bayraktar attack UAV from Türkiye. Since the end of 2021, the kyiv regime, in agreement with Ankara, has opened its own production of this type of drone.
Remember that the Bayraktar TB2 gained huge popularity during the 2020 Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. It was previously reported that the Turkish company Baykar Makina has unveiled a new Bayraktar TB3 combat UAV.
