Russia has withdrawn credentials, allegedly in retaliation, from Portugal’s honorary consul Acasio Durais in Nizhny Novgorod, an important industrial area south of Moscow, SIC Notícias reported.
The SIC contacted Acasio Durayes and stated that no explanation was given to him.
According to the same source, this decision can be regarded as revenge for the withdrawal of credentials from the Russian consul in Faro, which the Portuguese Foreign Ministry justified by issuing “golden visas”.
Bruno Valverde Couto is married with a Russian citizen born in Ukraine, was without the permission of the Government of Portugal to serve as honorary consul of Russia in January.
The Ministry of João Gomes Cravinho confirmed the revocation of the powers of the consul, but gave a vague explanation, citing only actions that were not in accordance with the Vienna Convention as the reason.
