A PSP intervention in Amadora over a group consuming alcohol and drugs on a public road ended in an attack on agents with bottles. The police were forced to use “shotguns” to restore order, which resulted in four arrests.
It happened in the late afternoon of April 6 on General Umberto Delgado Avenue.
According to official sources, people told the PSP about a large group of young people who were in this place and rioted, drinking alcohol and drugs on the street. Upon the arrival of the first agents, the group immediately protested the police intervention and reacted violently.
While the police identified some of those involved, other members of the group across the street continued to challenge the approach and insult the agents. The two young men were warned to stop this behaviour, but they did not follow the order and were arrested.
The friend then started throwing glass bottles and moved towards the agents in order to attack them, urging the rest of the group to follow him. He was also arrested, as was one of the friends who repeated the act. According to a police source, the last detainee deliberately insulted one of the agents because he was black.
Videos of the incident posted on social media show only part of the intervention, especially the actions of the police, covering up previous rampages.
This situation happened the day after a major PSP operation in Cova da Moura, but the two cases are not directly related.
