The United States will continue to support Honduras despite doubts after formal relations were established with China, US ambassador to Honduras Laura Dogu said on April 13, according to Hondudiario.
“The government can have diplomatic relations with anyone, we have a million Hondurans living in the United States and many Americans living in Honduras, we will always have a relationship”Dogu told the press.
He noted that the government is focused on supporting Honduras.
“We will always be here, we have a connection in culture and history”she said.
Let us remember that the Honduran government confirmed the rupture of diplomatic relations with Taiwan after 83 years of friendship.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that, at the direction of President Shiomara Castro, the decision was communicated to the Taiwanese government.
Honduras recognizes the existence of only one China in the world “and that the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government that represents all of China.”
