The transfer of more than 200 thousand rubles from a bank account was carried out by scammers who convinced the owner of the account, a resident of Elista, to install a mobile application for remote access on his phone. This was announced on April 13 by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kalmykia.
The department said police contacted the man for committing fraudulent activities.
The victim, a resident of Elista, said that his phone received a call from an unknown number, the interlocutor introduced himself as a bank employee and said that an attempt was made to transfer funds illegally from the man’s personal bank account. To protect the funds, the interlocutor suggested installing the RustDesk Remote Desktop application on the man’s mobile phone, a program for remote access and control of the device.
The unsuspecting man, believing that he was saving his savings in this way, installed the application and provided the pairing parameters with his device to the “bank employee”, who eventually transferred more than 200 thousand rubles from the man’s account to the account of the attackers. .
