A new solid-propellant intercontinental ballistic missile “Hwaseong-18” was tested in the DPRK on April 14, the South Korean agency Yonhap reports.
North Korea says it tested a new solid-fueled Hwaseong-18 ICBM on Thursdaysays the message.
The tests took place on the morning of April 13, the rocket was launched in the direction of the Sea of Japan.
Media reported that the rocket would land in the area of the northernmost Japanese island of Hokkaido. Information about an urgent evacuation was transmitted through emergency alert systems. Then-Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said the rocket did not fall on the country’s territory or its country’s territorial waters.
Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada said the missile was probably intercontinental. There is no information about the damage done to Japanese ships and aircraft.
This is reported to be the ninth launch of a ballistic missile in 2023 (or 12 launches, if cruise missile launches are included). North Korea launched 37 ballistic missiles last year.
