The case took place in February 2014, when a GNR soldier from the post of Caldas da Rainha was involved in a car accident in the Viseu area, and in order for the accident to be dealt with while on duty and to be able to receive medical assistance from the Caixa Geral de Retirees The name of the soldier that day was put on the duty list.
This soldier already has a criminal record for embezzlement and forgery. At that time he was sentenced to two years, but in the end the sentence was suspended. In addition to the four years and six months in prison, the court banned the military from holding public office for five years.
In court, it was proved that the duty sheet was falsified by the sergeant who was on duty that day at the post. The sergeant was sentenced to four years of probation.
