Russia’s Pacific Fleet has been placed on high alert by a surprise inspection, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said in a meeting with ministry leaders on April 14.
“Today, starting at 9 o’clock (Vladivostok time), the Pacific Fleet in full force went on alert and began to bring the Pacific Fleet to the highest degree of combat readiness”Shoigu said.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, carries out a sudden check of the readiness of the fleet. The events involve the units of the Aerospace Forces and the forces to guarantee the action.
The main task of sudden control is to develop the ability of the armed forces to repel the offensive of a potential aggressor from the sea, Shoigu explained.
“During the event, the Pacific Fleet will have to repel massive air and missile attacks, conduct exercises to search and destroy submarines, conduct torpedo, artillery and missile launches in the course of defeating naval strike groups and ground installations of a simulated enemy. ”explained the head of the department.
Thus, the troops will be tasked with repelling the enemy landing on the Southern Kuriles and Sakhalin, Shoigu said.
The Commander in Chief suggested that the troops in these maneuvers develop the use of modern weapons and, consequently, new forms of action.
The sudden check will be carried out in three stages, said Valery Gerasimov, chief of the General Staff. First, the fleet prepares for full combat, while at the same time, the units prepare for control exercises. In the second stage, the armed forces of constant preparation will move from their bases to the combat training territory. At the end, practical combat training tasks will be carried out.
Recall that a command staff exercise to control aviation and air defense forces in the Northern Fleet was held on April 10 under the command of the commander of the Northern Fleet, Hero of Russia, Admiral Alexander Moiseev. The press service of the fleet reports on the official Internet portal of the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
