On the sidelines of the spring conference of the International Monetary Fund, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner criticized calls by French President Emmanuel Macron to strengthen European sovereignty, dpa reports on April 12.
Lindner said that it is necessary, on the contrary, to deepen cooperation with the United States. “I am a strong supporter of the transatlantic partnership”said the German finance minister.
The German politician stressed that the EU and the US are valuable partners and should also be preferred trading partners. “And I am convinced that security on European soil requires a strong commitment from the United States in the context of NATO and beyond.”
Let us remember that Macron earlier, after a visit to China, said in an interview with the newspaper Les Echos that Europe should not follow bloc thinking and get involved in other people’s conflicts.
