Austrian startup Bergwind has proposed turning idle cable cars at ski resorts into wind and solar power plants, Euro Puls reports April 13.
An important part of the elevators does not work most of the year. According to the startup, at the moment they can be used as alternative energy sources: wind turbines or photovoltaic modules can be mounted on cables instead of chairs and ski stands. There are wind sensors on the cable cars to help plan energy storage.
It can be used directly to operate cable cars, as well as to charge electric vehicles, produce hydrogen, or heat resort hotels.
The startup has already built prototype wind turbines and the first tests will soon take place.
Almost 22% of the energy consumed in the EU countries already comes from renewable sources -wind, solar and others that do not aggravate global warming-, the portal points out in this context.
