Bolsonaro will have to testify before the Police about the attempted coup within 10 days

The Supreme Court of Brazil has determined this Friday that former President Jair Bolsonaro declare before the Police within a period of 10 days, in the framework of a process that investigates the coup attempt on January 8.

On that date, thousands of far-right activists that supports Bolsonaro attacked the three powers of the Nation in Brasilia, with the intention of forcing a military intervention to overthrow the president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvawho had assumed power eight days earlier.

That day, Bolsonaro was in the United Statesto where he had traveled on December 30, still in his capacity as president, with the intention of not handing over the presidential sash to Lula, whose victory at the polls last October always put him under suspicion.

The thousands of Bolsonaristas who assaulted the headquarters of the Supreme Court, Parliament and the Presidency on January 8 had been for more than two months camped at the gates of the Army headquarters demanding a coup, in an anti-democratic attitude that the leader of the ultra-right did not condemn and even endorsed.

For those events were 2,151 people arrested, of whom 294 remain in prisonwhile the rest will respond to the courts in freedom.

The Supreme Court has included Bolsonaro among those investigated, in order to determine if, even when he was in the United States that day, from where returned on March 30incited that movement or even had a role in planning the coup attempt.

The former president is being investigated in a dozen processes that are being processed in the ordinary Justice and in another four that are also in the Supreme Court, as well as in other cases before the Electoral Justice.
