The South Australian Department of Health has urged residents of the region to seek non-urgent hospital care rather than a hospital after a power outage disrupted its electronic health record system, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported ( ABC) on April 19.
Firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at the South Australian Government Data Center in Glenside on the morning of April 19 at 9:45am. The state government and the South Australian Department of Health confirmed that some technical services were affected by the fire.
South Australia Department of Health chief executive Dr Robin Lawrence said staff are using paper reporting and telephone services to manage patients at most hospitals until systems come back online .
“South Australians should always go to hospital for emergencies and any serious problems, but we also ask people to consider other non-urgent care options at this time.– she said. Our registration system will always give priority to the most urgent cases.”
An email received by ABC from Robin Lawrence revealed that the organization is experimenting “general problems” with numerous services in metropolitan Adelaide and regional areas.
“A power failure at a state government data center resulted in a partial loss of power to the cooling systems at the center that houses many of our servers and applications, causing problems with some data systems and network connectivity.” .says the email.
