The Union of Prehospital Emergency Technicians (STEPH) reported cases of delays in sending INEM funds, one of which resulted in death, to Faro.
INEM “could not find an ambulance at the required speed,” said STEPH president Rui Lazaro.
In another case in Olhão, a 60-year-old woman with a suspected stroke waited for an ambulance for more than two and a half hours.
Also with a suspected stroke in Tavira, a man (74 years old) waited 52 minutes.
In Seixal, a 63-year-old man complaining of shortness of breath waited 54 minutes. In Olhão, a 60-year-old woman with suspected hypoglycemia waited for help for more than an hour.
Rui Lazaro explained that even without taking into account the overtime strike for April, it was predicted that “many ambulances with more than 50% of vacancies will be filled.”
